ABOUT US

PDX Main Streets is a project through the Richmond Neighborhood Association to bring communities together across boundaries to create positive and proactive approaches for community building, design, planning and public engagement. Begun as the Division Design Initiative in 2013, we worked with four neighborhoods to create Division Design Guidelines that were adopted in 2018. When more and more communities and business associations began adopted the design guidelines for other streets (Hawthorne, Woodstock, Sellwood-Moreland) and requesting assistance with design and policy support, the project evolved into a citywide effort as the Portland Main Street Design Initiative (PDX Main Streets) in 2019. We are a coalition of community and business leaders, architects, designers, planners, artists and community advocates. We’ve now created two sets of main street design guidelines adopted for 12 main streets in SE Portland. We continue to support neighborhoods and business districts to raise design literacy and empower community members to manage growth and change.
